About Gale

We're currently seeking a manager to join our rapidly growing Data Science and Analytics (DSA) team to lead the strategy and innovation function, ensuring we remain at the cutting edge of DSA.

Successful candidates for the role will create and lead a data and innovation strategy roadmap aligned with DSA and broader business goals and current and future client needs. lead and mentor a team of data scientists as well as work with clients and internal stakeholders to define, prototype, and produce custom solutions using state-of-the-art big data platforms, analytics, and machine learning.

The ideal candidate will have a background in a quantitative field and have experience with large datasets, statistics/analysis, and client-facing activities. They will be enthusiastic, creative, results focused. You will have the opportunity to work across varying sets of data with a variety of clients.



What You Will Do

● Define and drive progress of the DSA innovation roadmap, at all levels of the business

● Manage relationships with external vendors and partners to ensure optimization of capabilities and their associated usage agreements

● To be the business owner of GALE data assets and drive development and usage of them across the business

● SME for GALE data assets – identify gaps and create plans to address and augment data capabilities

● A passion for data science and a pro-active approach to continuously identify and drive process efficiencies and improvements in the team


Who You Are

● Strong influencing skills to bring along internal and external stakeholders with identified imitative needs

● Outstanding oral and written communication skills

● Able to storyboard and present initiatives in a compelling way

● Demonstrated innovative mindset to ensure GALE DSA and platform capabilities remain at the forefront of the industry

● Demonstrated ability to understand industry trends, current and future client needs and the translation of these into a strategic development roadmap aligned to business strategy

● Experience of working with third party vendors including evaluation of solution capabilities and the assessment and alignment of them with GALE business needs

● High fluency with SQL on one or more of the following databases - Hive,PostgreSQL,Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL

● Fluency with scripting (Python, Bash, etc.)

● Experience with statistical programming languages/packages (R, SAS, Scipy/Numpy/Scikitlearn)

● Familiar with Unix/Linux systems and command-line interfaces and editors

● Familiar with the AWS ecosystem

● Comfortable working with the Hadoop ecosystem (Spark, MapReduce, Hive, YARN)

● Experience with supervised learning algorithms and their application to large data sets

● Experience loading, cleansing, and analyzing very large datasets


Nice to haves


● Experience in defining and managing project initiatives involving internal and external stakeholders

● Product / solution management experience

● Experience with unsupervised clustering algorithms, especially on large data sets

● Some experience with interactive visualization of data in Shiney, D3 or Dash

● Specific experience with the following programming languages: Scala, Apache Spark

● Some applied experience with ANN frameworks like: Tensorflow, Keras, Torch, Mxnet, etc.
